It generally refers to an electrical connector, that is, a device that connects two active devices to transmit current or signals. What is the structure of an electrical connector? First, let’s introduce the structure of an electrical connector. An electrical connector is composed of a fixed-end electrical connector, that is, a female contact (socket), and a free-end electrical connector, that is, a male contact (plug). The socket is fixed on the electrical component through its square (round) plate (some also use welding). The plug is generally connected to the cable, and the plug and socket are connected through a connecting nut.

Electrical connectors are composed of 3 basic units: shell, insulator and contacts.

The electrical connector shell refers to the shell of the plug and socket, the connecting nut, and the tail attachment. The function of the shell is to protect the insulator, contact body (general name for pins and sockets) and other components inside the electrical connector from damage. The upper positioning keyway ensures the positioning of the plug and socket. The connecting nut is used to connect and disconnect the plug and socket. The tail attachment is used to protect the wires and contact terminals from damage and to fix the cable. The shell also has a certain electromagnetic shielding effect.

The shell is generally made of aluminum alloy (machining, cold extrusion, die-casting). Steel shells are mostly used for glass sealing and high-temperature electrical connectors.

It consists of installing pin insulators and jack insulators, interface sealing bodies, sealing wire bodies, etc. It is used to keep the pin insertion holes in the set position and to electrically insulate each contact body and between each contact body and the shell. Sealing measures are obtained through the insulator and interface sealing body sealing body to improve the environmental resistance of electrical connectors.

In order to adapt to the high temperature, low temperature and flame retardancy of the product, the geometric dimensions of the parts are stable and reliable. The insulators are mostly molded from thermosetting plastics. The sealing body and wire sealing body are molded from silicone rubber.

Contact body

The contact body includes male contacts and female contacts, sometimes also called pin jacks. The connection methods are divided into welding, crimping, crimping, winding, etc. to achieve circuit connection.

Pin jacks are key components of electrical connectors, which directly affect the reliability of electrical connectors. Pin jacks are mostly made of machined elastic copper alloy materials with good conductivity, and are plated with silver or gold on the surface to achieve low contact resistance and anti-corrosion. Jacks generally include slotted jacks, wire spring jacks, crown spring jacks and punched jacks.

Structural features are: environmental resistance, bayonet type (quick) connection, multi-key position (to prevent mis-insertion), contact body and wire crimp connection, (single wire delivery facilitates troubleshooting). The shell and shielding ring ensure 360-degree electromagnetic interference shielding capability.
